“I first began weight training with Bob Takano in 1997 as a competitive tennis player. I had never lifted weights before so he patiently taught me everything from square one. After a year I switched to weightlifting exclusively, and with Bob’s coaching I won the National Championships in 2003. Since his retirement from coaching competitive weightlifting, I have gone on to compete in the 2004 Olympics Trials, medal at numerous national competitions, and represent the United States at the international level. But it goes without saying that I would not have been able to achieve these things had it not been for those years training under Bob. I’m glad that he has gone on to coach again, and that athletes of all types now have the opportunity to benefit from his many years of experience.” - Leslie Musser
Many thanks to Coach Bob Takano for coming out and teaching the Olympic Lifting Seminar during our Pre-season Conditioning Camp. His experience in teaching the lifts really came through when working with young athletes, most of whom had never heard of a clean or a snatch before. With his help, they could all perform the lifts by the end of the seminar, and are prepared to implement them into their training. I definitely hope to work with Bob again in the near future. - Eric Hansen Los Angeles International Fencing Center US Fencing National Team
